In a vented attic all of that expensive airflow is lost to the environment. One huge benefit of the spray foam insulated attic is that conditioned air leakage from the ac furnace duct system is contained and used to condition the attic. During the construction of your home they drill and cut holes through the walls to run these pipes and wires. Without air sealing your attic you are allowing warm air to escape from your home carrying with it your hard earned winter heating money. When you re done sealing your attic bypasses push the insulation back into place with an old broom handle or stick as you back out of the attic. Air seal your attic for energy savings. Spray foam is considered a high end insulation because of the cost and because it is seen as a fix all solution for insulation or air sealing. The dirt comes from dusty air leaking into your attic. We spray foam around most of these including around light fixtures bathroom fans open wall cavities and plumbing stacks. Most people just add insulation to their attic this will not stop the escaping warm air.
